Update: Case Design for ColecoJam

  • by

The first 3D printed case has arrived, and overall, I am quite pleased with the results. The case consists of 3 printed parts (top, bottom and power switch) and a decal label. This case is designed for use with the cartridge reader shield, but I would also like to create a version without it. There are also a couple of tweaks I want to make but overall I this first case is better than I anticipated.

To design the case, I started with the open source design of the Fruit Jam case designed by the Ruiz Brothes at Adafruit. I then modified it to fit the cartridge reader shield and added visual elements reminiscent of the original Colecovision console, which included the top grill and the front decal position. The design was done using Autodesk’s Fusion 360. Overall, the case size is about the same size as a Colecovision cartridge!
